Blitsen likes to play w/ her little ball. That is what I thought she was pushing around, pouncing on, and dropping in my shoe so she could stick her arm in up to the shoulder and bat it around in the confines of the toe of the shoe. I was therefore forewarned to empty out my shoes before I put them on to go out. It wasn't a ball that fell out but a big fat June bug. Yuch.
Listened to Old Time Radio on Public Radio on Sunday night. They often start off w/ a 'mystery sound effect' and listeners have until the end of the first show to call/e-mail in what they think made that sound. I was not only correct this time but also the one name they picked out of the correct responses. Yippee - have a coffee mug coming my way.
The anthers on this type of trillium are pink instead of yellow. I use that more as an indicator of the species than that the flower hangs below the leaves. Otherwise I might be taking pictures of a more common Large-flowered trillium that Indy just stepped on.
