Goldfinches in winter

The first weekend in March is Aldo Leopold Day.  The DNR (Department of Natural Resources) was hosting a meeting this morning at the library.  A local forester w/ the DNR introduced himself, showed the movie Green Fire about Aldo Leopold's work in conservationism and we went around the group reading the forward to A Sand Country Almanac written by Aldo Leopold.  Last week I read  the book How to read Nature by Tristan Gooley.  Surprisingly the book was a real snoozer.  Currently I'm reading Should the Tent be Burning Like That? - A Professional Amateur's Guide to the Outdoors by Bill Heavey.  It's synopsis sounded like it would be humorous stories about the forays into the woods but so far it's very unexciting tales of hunting and fishing.  Makes me appreciate Aldo Leopold's insightful book even more.  At the end of the presentation the forester did talk about the state of conservationism here.  I have love/hate feelings for the DNR usually but after the meeting I have more compassion for what they are up against w/ our current governor and legislators.
