Red Squirrel
On the way back from the morning walk, Indy and I ambled on down to the basswood grove. There was a sudden flurry of activity and I saw a number of red squirrels take off through the branches. One stayed behind to scold me for coming too close. A movement of the brush to my left reminded the squirrel that I was not alone and it took off for higher branches too. I'd been so focused on the squirrels that I'd forgotten this was my neighbor's land. I was only a stone's throw away from the fence so made my way across and called for Indy. Remembered the deer carcass that had been dragged there only after Indy emerged from the brush w/ a fetid deer leg. She proudly carried it high all the way home and waited for me to open up the door to her run so she could deposit it safely there. Just hope she is content to gnaw on it outside and doesn't bring it into the garage.
