Wild raspberries in October
I had tentative plans for the afternoon but when I dropped by the library to pick up a book that was waiting for me, I saw there was no volunteer at the front desk. Decided to help out the librarian until closing. The library courier had come late and our books returned from other libraries were not yet put away. Did that first. Then checked on what books needed to be pulled off the shelves for requests from other libraries. In between checked in/out books as patrons came and went. There are also many books being donated by people for the November book sale. I went through some of the boxes sorting the same author's books together. A beautifully bound tome of two Sherlock Holmes stories was in one box. I pulled it out and checked our shelves. The library has nothing by Arthur Conan Doyle. I put it aside for the librarian to consider adding to our collection. I assume librarian's play a balancing game of what people want to read and how much shelf space the library has. If it was left up to me, we'd have a copy of all of the Sherlock Holmes novels - they are classics. To make room, I'd toss all Harlequins (a/k/a Bodice Rippers) and a good number of the Westerns - just my opinion.
