I'm often surprised to find out what people collect. The new display in the library is thimbles. When the lady first told me she had the collection I was enthusiastic about getting her to put it in the display at the library but not sure how one displays something so small and so utilitarian. I had no idea this lady was a serious collector. There are thimbles from different countries, for various holidays, imprinted w/ pictures of animals, flowers, birds, British royalty. Some are dolls made from thimbles, thimble jewelry, thimble ornaments. My favorite are the antique thimbles showing how thimbles have changed in size, material, and usage. Hope she lets us keep the collection on display for awhile.
