Rachel came along w/ me to see the most "happening" place around - the swamps. We started out early on our walk since the day was suppose to get hot. The rising sun lit up a cross orb weaver spiderweb. At the gravel pit, I wanted to show Rachel the kingfishers making holes in the side the of the excavated hills but instead saw a different shaped bird emerge from one of them. Turned out to be a northern rough-winged swallow. Had never seen one before. Rachel found a tiny snapping turtle climbing over a ridge from one swamp to the next. While we didn't find wild calla blooming yet, we did find other flowers. Emerged from the woods wet and a bit mucky. Fun though to find some of the "treasures" the swamps hold.
