At first I thought this ebony jewelwing damselfly was laying eggs. I recognized it as a female because of the white patches at the top of it's wings and she isn't as deep black as the male of the species appears. However, now I'm not so sure. Number 1: This leaf isn't in or above water which the hatchlings need to survive; and Number 2: Usually the male hovers nearby making sure that no other males intrude during the process. She might be doing something else.
