Deadly Nightshade

Nice enough today while I sat on the deck and Indy laid in the grass. Once we got started on our walk though you could tell it was humid. Indy and I don't do power walks - it would be hard to do through the underbrush anyway - it's more of an amble. An hour later when we got home I was sweating through my t-shirt and Indy was panting. I gave Indy her treat, shucked my sweaty clothes and had sat down when I noticed my forearm hurt. Raised welts ran down the length of it. I dabbed the area w/ alcohol and then rubbed in mint udder cream (same kind we use on the cows). Stinging sensation gone, it was time to figure out the cause. My first thought was wild parsnip which can cause a nasty burn if you get the sap on your skin and expose it to the sun. However, the burns take a day to show up. Next thought was poison ivy. I'm very allergic to the stuff but never seen any of it on this property. That left blackberry thorns. We were almost back home on the walk when I found some ripe blackberries and, of course, had to have a taste. I could easily have rubbed lightly against the thorns. I decided that was the reason (even if it isn't). I like all my problems resolved before I go to bed.
