Leonard Nimoy

I read today of the actor, Leonard Nimoy's passing. As most people know he played Mr. Spock on the Star Trek TV series. Star Trek taught lots of us that science was great fun and we could change the world to be a better place. The white-washed barn wall of the farm where I grew up still has the Star Trek science emblem graffitied on the wall (it's just beyond the entrance to the calf pens). I took a few of the Star Trek books w/ me when I went away to college. They were a kind of security blanket, if you will, that got me through the first few days until I made friends. In fact, if you open up my flip phone right now, the display is a picture of Mr. Spock. I don't usually have a high opinion of actors. However, I will always appreciate the impact Leonard Nimoy had on my life.
