I was trying to get a cow to backup this morning so laid the long wood handled scraper across the metal bars at her nose level. She was one determined cow and put her head under the handle, raised up, and splintering it into three pieces. Later when the herdsman came through the parlor, I pointed at the shattered handle and told her I broke it. "Oh my God, Susan. Do I need to check on the cow?" She laughed. (She knew very well I wouldn't hurt a cow.) The real damage turned out to be what she had just said rather than the broken handle. Domingo picked up on that one phrase and repeated it for the rest of the milking. "Oh my God, Susan, necesito una toalla." "Oh my God, Susan, pueden salir?" "Oh my God Susan, esta navando." I took his ribbing good naturedly but it's a phrase I hope he doesn't retain.
