Birch trees
The dairy owners are very good at fixing anything that breaks as quickly as reasonable. The night shift crew just isn't good at reporting things that break. It might be a language thing or it could be they are just guys that don't like to write stuff down. - The PVC pipe for the jet hose this morning had a jagged open crack in it. Mike found that out the hard way when he turned it on. - I stood looking at the display above one of the first cows that had just finished milking. No milk weight registered and the cow obviously still had lots to give. About that time Carol came in and said that the milking report showed a bunch of cows had zero milk weights last night. Putting the two facts together we realized that milking unit #14's baffle was flooded. For the rest of the morning, I put that unit on manual so it wouldn't come off prematurely. - The hoses in the parlor are serviced by two separate pumps and one of them is going bad and just continues to run. The owners taped a note on parlor door to remind us to turn on the bad pump when we need to use those hoses and then turn it off before we leave. - Reminded me of that old saying, "When it rains, it pours."

Sounds like a talk with the night shift crew is in order.
