Inch worms on the Sneezeweed
Hoofer was on-site at the dairy this morning so the cows were on edge. They do not like having their feet worked on. What that means to us as milkers is 1) we had to mark heads of the cows who needed to see the hoofer and 2) we needed to watch the milking weight display. A nervous cow can give a few pounds and then just quit. Before a milking unit comes off, there is a red light that starts blinking. We would watch for that, check how much milk the cow had already given and if she still looked pretty full, put the unit on manual. Not difficult but something extra to do while continuing to milk other cows. Always puzzles me why PNC considers this a unskilled job.
