Full moon
I don't know all of the issues w/ the upcoming vote for Scotland to become an independent nation. However, I'd be surprised if the Scots don't vote to secede from the United Kingdom. While England often promises them more autonomy when it's election season, that gets put on the back burner afterward. The Scots have already voted to separate in 1979 but a clause in that vote required the number of people voting "yes" had to be over 40% of the total number of people that could vote. In 1999 the Scottish Parliament was finally allowed to govern on some local matters. In the little personal experience I've had there, the English consider Scotland to still be wild and uncivilized and the Scots consider England to be overbearing. Of course, w/ the idea that all of that oil from the North Sea wells going into Scottish coffers, the English have become downright glowing in their terms of how important Scotland is to the United Kingdom. I don't know if it's a good thing for countries to break apart - thought it was a good idea when the USSR did it, a very bad idea when Quebec was considering it.
