Some jeans are advertised as having five pockets: two in the back, two in the front. The fifth is a small one on the right hand side just above the front pocket on that side. It was first sewn into jeans in the 1800's. Levi Strauss created it for a cowboy to store his watch. It was then called the "watch pocket." Later it was used it to store loose change and it's name changed to "coin pocket". Now my flip cell phone fits perfectly in this little pocket. Others use it to store sticks of gum, matchbooks, keys, etc. Makes me wonder if we find uses for the pocket because it's there -or- if it's there because we still find uses for it.
