The County Clerk sent out an e-mail reminding all municipal clerks that while we should send out absentee ballots for the November election, we can't have people come to our office/home to absentee vote until October 22nd. I knew about this change but it had puzzled me so I responded to her e-mail and asked what the reasoning was in not allowing in-person absentee voting for another week. Our County Clerk is one of the most forthright people I know and she responded immediately that it's "all a plan along with everything else that they [the legislature] changed this year to try and make sure that everyone is confused on the laws so that one party or the other can place the blame on someone that part of the election process was not done correctly". You know, as idiotic a reason as that is, I believe she's hit the nail on the head.
