My new hairdresser is on an equestrian search and rescue squad. Most searches start by using people on foot or ATV's but there are some environments where that isn't possible. Turns out horses are excellant at stepping over downed trees and pushing through brambles plus the people on the horses are up high and have a good vantage point.  Horses have a great sense of smell too and can alert the rider that something is amiss. The equestrian squad practice on a regular basis and while they aren't called on often, they've been quite effective on the searches they have participated in. Always interesting to learn something new.
