The Demise of "K"

Indy and I took a long walk through the swamps today. First checked on the lady slipper orchids. They have buds but aren't open yet. Along the swamp path there are lots of trillium, wood anemone, and wild strawberries blooming. My neighbor stopped to talk as he took his 4-wheeler on the path to the creek. Today is the fishing opener and he had on his waders and a reel tucked in by his side. I pass two of the blue bird houses (labeled "L" and "K") on my route home and Indy was the first to notice a problem. A bear had taken down "K". I had just checked all of the bluebird houses so I knew that it had held 5 bluebird eggs yesterday afternoon. The eggs had been there for over 3 weeks and I was concerned that they might have gotten too cold during some of our frosty nights. Guess I don't have to worry about that any more.

Do you think that solar lights keep the bears away? I think you tried that last year near one of the birdhouses?
