Chestnut-sided Warbler

This male and another were in a dispute over territory today. He was watching for the interloper to come too close before he'd chase him off. The good thing was it meant he would sit still long enough to let me take a picture. I thought these birds just migrated through on their way to Canada so I was surprised that they were staking out sites. Back home, an on-line birding page showed my county was at the very southern edge of their nesting range. A little mind-blowing to look at such a small creature and realize he just breezed in from Ecuador.
