Tamarack Swamp

Found one of the apple trees in the field broken off about three feet off the ground.  I had been past it earlier in the week so I knew it didn't have any leaves left on it nor were there any more apples.  I was puzzled what would have done such damage.  I turned the downed trunk over and saw the claw marks deep in the bark.  A bear.  This time of year they are ravenous.  Don't know why it brought down the tree though.  The remains won't go to waste - will bring it back to the house, cut it up, and dry it out.  Apple wood has many uses.

Apple wood chips are great to use in a smoker.
