NBC Nightly News was on. Like most people, I don't have first hand knowledge of many of the news items. Never been to Somalia to see the drought devastation. I'm not a stock broker who had to deal w/ a wild market this week. Not at the Iowa State Fair to hear the Republican candidates. However, I suddenly sat up straight when Brian Williams talked about the Perseid meteor shower this weekend. "It's optimal viewing conditions," he said, " because there is no moon." No moon? It's Full Moon! That means a brilliant moon will rise just as the sun is setting and stay in the sky the entire night. It will outshine all but the very brightest meteors. I slouched back down in my chair. Just how much else was wrong on tonight's news?
