Red-Spotted Admiral butterfly

You might not find this butterfly in some reference books.  It's a hybrid between a White Admiral and a Red-Spotted Purple and only got an official name from the NABA in 2001.  The Red-Spotted Purple butterfly is expanding it's territory into the northern part of the state and there are more and more cases of these interbreeding w/ the native White Admirals.  You'll often find them taking nutrients from sand and gravel as is this one.  Don't know if this new species is a result of global warming or butterflies adapting to a different environment.  Either way, shows nature is always changing.
