Stopped at the town's historical society this afternoon.  I'm still curious why 8 acres of land in the township changed hands in 1912.  I had brought a copy from the town's tax records from that year showing where someone had made a hand-written note in the ledger.  The historian thought it might be because of a new survey (some of the swamps in the area weren't originally surveyed accurately.)  She had the newspapers from that time period up on the computer for me to peruse and suggested I might pay attention to any request for bids for surveying.  She also gave me important advice: "When doing historical research, don't believe anything you hear or read."  She said, "Use it as a clue.  It will either lead you to more information or be a dead end."
