All winter, I've seen the same deer trek across my backyard. One pair is a doe and last year's fawn. Now that spring is here, mom has decided her offspring needs to become more independent. I watched this weekend as the doe lay back her ears and chase the yearling round and round another deer. The fawn didn't seem to understand what had come over mom and finally just stood off a bit watching her. Later, the doe let the yearling come close again but I suspect there will be more of these fracases. Mom is planning another baby in a couple of months. Time for this fawn to grow up.
