Had pizza tonight w/ the rest of the milking crew. Our goal is a somatic cell count (SCC) lower than 100. We did 82 last month so the owners took us out to a pizza place to celebrate. This is one of the few opportunities we have to see the people on the other shifts. Susan, who works the weekend, said she was pinned up against the steel bars by cow #236 and it took the other milker to come to her rescue. Fortunately, she only got black & blue marks out of the incident. I have to admit that secretly I am relieved to realize (1) it's not just me that gets attacked and (2) sometimes there isn't any way to stop an attack. Of course, it could also be that cows only go after people named "Susan".
