Bittersweet Nightshade (Solanum dulcamara)

No state motto is "Look Down" (though it might be the unofficial motto at the dairy). It isn't a bad idea. Walking through a marsh, I literally stumbled over a pair of sheds (deer antlers) from this spring. The deer must have been large - a 12 pointer. Continued on through a rocky field and found a whole disk from the trap shoot earlier this year. Guess they didn't hit them all. I was tuned into looking down now and found a roll of paper birch bark that had blown off a tree. Picked that up too - great fire starter. Among some rocks I found these berries. I didn't realize it grew here so another new species for me. By the time Indy and I got home from our walk, I was loaded down w/ goodies. (and yes, Brent, another name for this plant is "Deadly Nightshade.")

Uh oh, you invited me over for a Thanksgiving meal. I think I'll let you sample all the food first.

Brent - if you smell Frog's Breath then be aware that she's covering something up!

"Nothing is more suspicious than Frog's Breath!"
