Cinnamon fern
A farm in Pennsylvannia that supplies milk to Land O' Lakes was accused of animal cruelty last year. They were acquitted but Land O' Lakes wanted to make sure that the farms they did business w/ treated their animals humanely. They started a program that brings in independent vets and observers who will check each farm every 3 years. The dairy I work at had an initial check done when Land O' Lakes personnel were testing the process. They also had some people visit that were being trained. However, Thursday was the real thing. The inspectors came in looked at the herd and environment overall and then specifically checked a pre-determined number of cows. We passed easily. Yes, it's more documentation that farmers have to keep but this one, at least, gives you a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling.
