I knew it wouldn't be a bright sunshine day. Temps are just below the thawing point so slowly the snow is sublimating - turning directly into vapor instead of melting into water. Made for a day which looked overcast but wasn't. Of course, as soon as the sun went down, the opposite of sublimation occurred. Deposition is when gas turns directly to a solid (snow) without going through the liquid stage. There will be hoar frost covering everything tomorrow. You just gotta love physics.
