California just banned docking cows tails so I was researching their reasoning. They said it was cruel to the animal for no good purpose (obviously, the lawmakers haven't been slapped in the face w/ a wet tail). I'm cool w/ their decision to ban the practice but wonder why they didn't ban cropping dog tails (boxers, poodles, lots of terriers, etc.). If it's cruel to a cow, wouldn't it be cruel to a dog? Plus cropping dog's tails is purely for looks. But then, California is a place where people can relate to the idea of surgical procedures done only for looks.
