Houseplant mushrooms and geraniums
I kept watering the flowers on the deck once a day through the current heat wave. Figured they would dry out if I didn't. In two containers huge mushrooms appeared overnight. I think they are in the Lepiota family. Usually they are sort of parasol shaped but these have been malformed as they fairly exploded upward and around geranium stems. These mushrooms aren't edible. They can cause liver and kidney damage or potentially kill. Fortunately most people wouldn't pick mushrooms out of geranium containers. When I mentioned the mushrooms to my Master Gardener sister and niece, they both said watering every two days was enough. I'm quite happy to back off my daily watering. While the mushrooms won't hurt the geranium plants, fairly certain having them growing in amongst your flowers is bad form.
