Haven's Fireplace
Still in a cold snap - no frost yet - but we broke the lowest high temp recorded for this day (think I said that right). In the Northwoods, it isn't uncommon to turn on the home's heat in September but I still think it's too early. Decided to light a fire tonight and throw the electric blanket on the bed (was going to do it tomorrow when I wash sheets anyway). Cleaned out the fireplace from the spring's last fire. I've got plenty of dry logs in the garage, small hardwood chips that the brother's leave me from their various projects, and packing paper from packages. Pretty easy to get a fire started. I left that to merrily burn. Instead of snaking the wires under the bed each fall, I leave them in place all year long so it's only a matter of plugging one end into the electric blanket and the other end into the wall. Just having a fire going makes the house feel warmer. Still, tonight I figure the whole household will be sleeping on my bed tonight.
