Barn Quilt

Town Planning Commission meeting tonight.  We hadn't had a meeting since September last year - a combination of no longer having enough members to make a quorum and there isn't a lot of building going on here in the winter.  Chairman Roger had sent us all a building permit request so this afternoon I checked out the site up on Singer road.  Except that the building would be quite close to the lot line (5'7" on a set back requirement of 5' for sheds)  it looked OK to me.  The commission met at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.  The Town Board had recruited two new members for the team so we again had a quorum.  The building permit we considered seemed straight forward until Roger said he had talked w/ the couple.  The permit was made out for a new garage - frame built, one story, no basement, no plumbing, not a rental unit, and not to be used as a sleeping place.  The couple said that was their original plans but they might put up a metal shed instead and they might build an apartment in it.  Our group decided to accept the permit as written.   We also said when the permit is returned to the couple someone has to explain that this permit does not allow for an apartment and that all parts of the building - including the roof overhang - have to be more than 5' from the lot line.   Hopefully the couple will take some time to decide what they really want from this building and keep to the permit or submit an amended one.  It's not enough to have a signed permit before you build. You also have to build what it says on the permit.
