My wakeup alarm announced "Good Morning. It's -15 degrees." I turned over in my nice warm bed but soon Whip was licking my face saying it was time for our morning constitutional. She felt cooped up after yesterday's cold so went bolting outside when I opened the door. However, when she slowed down the cold caught up w/ her and on the way back to the house she acted like she wasn't sure she could make it other step. I coaxed her back home and once inside she was back to bouncing around. I, however, thought since I was already bundled up now was a good time to fill the bird feeders. The sun hadn't risen yet but it was fairly light outside. No birds. Possibly mine aren't the first on their circuit of feeders. Then I took the garbage down to the end of the road for pickup. I'd already gotten a notice from the Waste Management that they would be picking up on Martin Luther King Day. Had also gotten a notice that the school was closed because so many of the staff and children were sick. Plus a notice from the new librarian that the library that would close due to the cold. Nothing else on my schedule that had to get done today. I closed off the north half of the house. Made breakfast and ate it at the table while I watched multitudes of birds arrive in a sudden feeding frenzy. Once the sun came up, Dunder, Blitz, Whip, and I each found our own spot in the sun and took a morning nap. Winter may be cold but it also had it's good points.
