Before Sunrise

When even the sun doesn't rise until 7:30, it's hard for me to get up too.  Maybe that's why Thanksgiving-Christmas-Kwanza-New Years are held this time of the year.  Their celebrations create a lot of motivation to get up and moving.   The last two days I've worked at my desk on Christmas cards.  Circumstantial evidence is strong showing postal service delivery takes longer every year.  I wanted to get cards mailed early.  According to my Christmas card spreadsheet, I'm 80% complete on that activity.  This morning the weather was mild (first time above freezing in two weeks) so decided to clean Mjolnir.  Mjolnir is 'booked' over Christmas.  The last remnants of all those autumnal flies have to go.  Took over the Roomba and while it cheerfully swept up the dead ones on the floor, I looked for tiny corpses in drawers, appliances, the folds of curtains, and between calendar pages.  Took down the window screens and removed the fly strips (and their occupants) from the front door.   I'm conducting a number of experiments this winter and one is to run Mjolnir's A/C split system monthly.  The system loses it's freon charge every winter and it was once suggested by a repairman that I try running it periodically every month to see if that might help.  (Fortunately the unit is not the primary source of heat in that building.)  I turned it on while I was working.  It warmed up the little room quickly, didn't blow out dead flies, and I can report on my Experiment spreadsheet that the system was working in December.   I still have to dust, make the bed, put out towels, and turn on the hot water heater but at least the place no longer looks like the doorstep to purgatory.  Actually looks cozy.
