Giant St. John's Wort seed pods
Last year the Friends of the Library issued 'gift cards' for used books. It seemed like an odd concept to me but the librarian claimed that some gift cards had been bought and used. I'm not sure if the idea took off - never saw anyone myself get books using a gift card. This year the Friends of the Library are issuing "One Free Book" tickets. They started it with the Book-Bake-New2U sale last week by including a ticket w/ notices they put in books people checked out. They have a pile of tickets available right at the front desk that a person can take - as many as you like though you can only use one at a time. Turns out people "can't read just one". Tonight I had two people come in and while they both picked up one free book in the book shop, they also bought other books. I like this idea! People enjoy getting something for free. We like people reading and have lots of donated books that might interest them. The library gets funds for extra things they need that aren't in the budget. I've got my free book ticket. Didn't have time to look for one in the book shop tonight while I was on duty. Next time I'm in town will take my time to peruse the book shop for my free book (though probably will end up buying a couple other books too.)
