Mapleleaf Viburnum on the edge of Bihlmayer road

The low temp for tonight was forecast to be in the 30's with rain all afternoon.  Today's project therefore was to get all of the potted plants into Sleipnir before noon.  I'd been slowly staging them in front of Mjolnir - you know - whenever I was going that way would pick up a pot and deposit it on the gravel.  However most of the plants still had to be moved.  Picked up the long box planters first and put them on the first tier.  The two in front of the house I left out.  I like their little splash of color.  Will bring them inside the foyer tonight and put them out during the day.  Left out Brother Phil's army boots sitting by Mjolnir's front door for the same reason.  The red petunias in them look nice.  I'd learned from last year that it's easier to water if the pots are packed in close.  Also realized that the top of each tier is wider than the bottom of the pots so staggered the pots - one slightly forward, one slightly back, the next forward, etc.  Gave me room to put an additional plant on each tier.  Some plants I'm going to compost - the tomato, the strawberry, etc.  Those I put together on the floor near the planting bench.   I'll get to them later.   There were some new species I bought this year and I don't know how well they will overwinter.  Put them in a different group on the floor.  They will probably end up in the compost too.  Then I brought in my 'smelly pot': the one with lemon verbena, lavender, thyme, and spearmint.  I'd overwintered it already one year and figured I should replace it's contents for next year.  Everything is growing well in it though - placed it in the 'may/maybe not compost' group.  The two cacti I carefully carried into Mjolnir and set them atop a saw stand.   Phil had admonished me not to spill any water on the equipment surfaces.  I only water the cacti once during the winter but might move them to a bench anyway.  Walked around the house and didn't find anymore plants.  Felt good to get that project accomplished.  As it happened, this afternoon it didn't rain, the sun came out, and the forecast was raised to the low 40's.  That's OK.   It will freeze here sooner than later.
