It was hobo/boyscout dinners tonight. In the middle of a large piece of aluminum foil goes slices of onion (we used videlia). On top of that goes a seasoned and fairly flat patty of hamburger. I seasoned mine w/ herbs de provence, pepper, and A1 sauce. Then we topped them w/ half of a large baking potato peeled and sliced about as thick as the onion. Topped that w/ slices of carrot and topped it w/ diced tomato. Liberally seasoned again w/ pepper and salt and topped it off w/ a patty of butter. Folded up the foil around the mound so no juices would leak out and took them out to Ragnarok. I had set up the tripod over the firepit. Got a good fire going and lowered the suspended grill to practically the top of the flames. Then carefully transferred the foil wrapped packages onto the grill. I've always done the traditional method of putting the dinner pouches right on the coals. Now that I'm 70 I'm just not that fond of ash in my food so doing it suspended above the flames this way would keep everything a bit cleaner. I thought we would have to turn the dinners over to get everything to cook through but the suspended grill liked to oscillate over the fire so it kinda did the turning on it's own. Three quarters of an hour later we took the packages off the fire, let them sit a moment before opening them up. I slapped some pepper cheese on top of it (which gratifingly promptly melted over everything) and dined. Actually quite good. Will have to do it again this summer. Maybe next time I'll heat my dinner over the charred remains of my tax returns from 10 years ago.
