Election Day. Got to the town hall a little after 6 a.m. We opened the polls at 7. Never had a line of more than 5 people so did pretty well in getting the voters in and out. Had two brand new voters. Was enjoyable registering them since they seemed so eager. The weather wasn't too bad early on but rapidly began to deteriorate - snow which turned to graupel which turned to rain. One voter was just back from the hospital and asked for curbside voting. So Chief Inspector Barb and I went out to her car w/ the poll book and a ballot. Her husband had her ID so I ran back inside to get it in order that both Barb and I could see it. (The rule on most election activities is at least two people can avow for everything.) The voter signed the book, we handed her the ballot, and she began to tell us about her operation. It was at the graupel part of the day and Barb and I were getting pelted by the tiny iceballs. Without being rude, both of us made no comments to her story and the lady - still talking - began filling out the ballot. Then another voter arrived, saw her friend, jumped into the lady's car, gave her a hug, and asked about her operation. Yikes! Fortunately, they cut their 'catching up' short when they noticed Barb and I shivering. By 7 p.m. we were at 191 voters. Fellow poll worker (and neighbor) Anita hoped we would make 200. Three minutes before closing time our 200th voter walked in. All in all, a pretty successful day.
