Another 'heirloom'. This table was in Grandma Pearl Mayer's upstair sewing room. It was made for her by Pastor Hanson's son I assume in the 1910-1920's. It is oak and originally had two leaves. Couldn't find the leaves when my parents gave it to me in the '80s. Brother Phil fashioned a leaf for it when it came to Haven w/ me. My grandmother had 'pickled' it - painting it w/ whitewash and rubbing it off before it dries. Not a look I was enamored with. Brother Brent took the top, pedestal, and legs apart and refinished it to a beautiful golden oak. I really like this little table but it is an enigma. Tucked up under the top are two sets of 'legs' which can swing down at the ends. These 'legs' are too spindly to carry much weight and, in fact, don't reach the floor. Never have figured out what function they perform.

Would the spindly 'legs' reach the floor if the wheels were removed from the pedestal? Were the wheels original?
It's a nice table!
