Gorgeous Gorge - April

Had a blood draw for lab tests early this morning at the clinic.  The tech greeted me w/ "How are you doing today?"  "Great" was my response.  "Good" she replied as she busied herself w/ checking paperwork.  "Well, not great.  Let's make it good." I replied.  Hadn't been awake long enough to evaluate just how I did feel.  "Good" the tech said w/o looking up.  Realized then she wasn't really interested in any conversation.  Hmmm ... wonder why I was?  The first election after Covid began I'd warned the poll workers to not exchange in chit-chat w/ voters but to get them in and out of the town hall as efficiently as possible.  That had fallen by the wayside quickly.  The people voting had been shut away for quite awhile and they wanted to talk.   It's the same w/ some of the library patrons.  Some are hungry for a little human interaction and they strike up a conversation about whatever w/ the volunteer.  All of the volunteers will take the time to talk.  It's another function the library can provide.  Now was it me that needed more interaction?  Stopped at the appointment desk on the way out.  "Why was I sent an appointment reminder with a nurse for 9 a.m.?"  "Oh, that's a Medicare Wellness check.  We don't do those anymore." was the response.  Perfect.  Had planned on cancelling it anyway.   Drove to a restaurant and ordered breakfast.  Afterward stopped at the County Clerk's office to pick up absentee ballot forms for the next election.  A carpenter was busy making a window from that office into the hallway.  "What's up?" I asked the clerk.  "Federal Marshall was in last week and we got an F."  she said.  "Too many people coming into the office.  The window will keep them in the hallway."  Interesting that the Federal Marshall doesn't want people in a clerk's office.  Stopped off on my way back home for a latte and talked briefly w/ the people in the shop.   There ... that should satisfy my quota for human interaction for the rest of the day.
