White Birch
I stayed up past midnight to finish listening to an audio book. The author M.C. Beaton died about two years ago and this would be her last book in a series about Hamish MacBeth - a policeman in a rural area of the Scottish Highlands. There are far more murders in this area than you might expect (but this is fiction) plus in this book Hamish proposes. He's done that in three previous books and I wanted to know if the author would pull a 'Cartwright' on him. On the old western Bonanza, unlike their father, sons Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe never married (or at least not for long). Spoiler Alert - neither does Hamish. I don't know why it's so hard for writer's to happily marry main characters: Gunsmoke's Matt, The Rifleman's Lucas, Gilligan's Island Professor, The Big Valley kids, anyone on Perry Mason. A blurb on this last book says that another author will be taking over the series so Hamish may get more chances though I suspect like Captain Kirk his true love isn't human. You know ... I probably should cut back on watching so much MeTV.
