The builders put up drywall, taped, and plastered the seams yesterday. They let it dry for a day and came back today to reapply plaster. (The secret of doing a nice seam is initially to use the plaster sparingly.)
Library duty tonight. The village is tearing up all of the streets, putting in new water pipes, and then repaving. There was a rather large bulldozer tearing up the street in front of the entrance to the library so I came in the back entrance. The librarian has multiple signs up to use that entrance even though she felt people wouldn't try to skirt past the mammoth digging machine and busted up asphalt to come in the front. (She was wrong.) I had a few patrons come in and in between times there were the monthly stats to finish, new book notices to print, and a few books requested by other libraries to pull. One was designated E COS and was named Friends of a Feather. The E designation sent me to the Children's section for Elementary Level readers. The COS represents the first three letters of the authors name. I was surprised when I realized the author was Bill Cosby. I looked on the back jacket and it was the same Bill Cosby who was just let out of prison on a technicality. While his shows were pulled from the TV lineup when he was convicted, libraries won't do that sort of censorship. (To be fair, libraries don't have to deal w/ sponsors nor pay royalties while a book is on their shelves.) Libraries go w/ the philosophy that should people not want to read his books, there is a wide selection of other books for a patron to choose from.
