Blue-eyed Grass

Phil mowed all of the paths while he was here so today was the first day I mowed them.  Many of the paths snake along the edge of forests.  Looking into the dark green depths of a woods makes me smile.  Of course I also smile when I see little blue-eyed grass blooming alongside the paths.  Reminds me of the friend who first pointed them out to me.  (I had assumed they were a different kind of violet.)  I mow slowly enough that the little green tree frogs can easily get out of the way though I stop for butterflies.   They flit away quickly enough.    Bobolinks are setting up territories.  Even over the noise of the mower I can hear their long bubbly song.  I know mowing is a chore that must be done on a regular basis but around here it's a pretty enjoyable one.
