Muskrat

Checked bird houses today.  One out of each of the paired houses has a tree swallow nest and the one nearest my house has three eggs.  I cleaned out a couple of house sparrow nests.    I read another on-line article which described how house sparrows will kill tree swallows in order to take over their nesting site.  I've seen that happen over the years and it's very disheartening to check on a box and find a dead bird in it.    Bluebirds haven't made an appearance here yet.   So, for now,  pairing the nesting boxes has had the advantage of keeping the house sparrows working on their nest in one box and leaving the tree swallows in the other box alone.
