Sunrise - January 22

This summer the county road crew worked on the ditch on the other side of the road.  I can't swear to it but since the farmer on that side eliminated the small strip of native grasses and weeds between his field and the ditch, that ditch overflows onto the road whenever we have a big rainfall and during snowmelt in the spring.  So from the the bottom of the hill to the very top of the hill, the workers dug out the ditch and made it wider, deeper, and steeper.  I didn't understand why the crew had continued to dig all the way up to across from my driveway - the top of the ridge isn't where the water overflows.  Now that winter is here, we've had a car slide into the ditch and almost tip over.    The power line poles run up that side of the road and the crew was out checking the poles.  The ground had been dug out so close to their base they were concerned that when the frost goes out and the ground heaves the poles might topple.  Personally, I'm watching the fence line.  A portion of some of the metal posts was revealed when they were digging and they might also fall over come spring.   Sounds like the county is thinking of coming back to partially refill some of the ditch.  Our tax dollars in action.
