Killing Frost

We might have had one already but this morning it for sure was a killing frost.  Made for a pretty countryside though so Indy and I went for a walk.  It's quiet - no background hum of insects.  They have secreted themselves away until warm temps return.  Most of the pretty leaves have fallen but the tamarack are putting on an encore by turning brilliant gold.  Even Gorgeous Gorge had a thin sheet of ice over it.  I saw a tree w/ green leaves from my living room window yesterday so we walked over that way.  It's that time of the year to look for buckthorn.  This invasive tree stands out since it remains green much later than the native trees.  I tagged the tree w/ pink tape and will come back later to cut it down.  It takes a couple of years of doing this before the tree no longer can regenerate.  Not efficient but it works.
