Installing the garage door
Early in our discussions the general contractor asked what kind of door I wanted on the garage. Said I'd like to let in as much light as possible. I was thinking of a door entirely glass. Both my brothers and the contractor thought this wasn't a good choice. Brother Phil felt potential robbers could see everything inside. Perhaps but unlikely. My contractor wasn't sure a gravel driveway and all of that glass was a good fit. Probably. I'd taken pictures of a style w/ two rows of windows in the upper portion of the door. A reasonable compromise. When it came time to do a pre-payment my contractor urged me to make an appointment w/ the garage door company to ensure I was getting what I wanted. Did that and I changed the order to a very basic looking door w/ two plain rows of windows (same price). The door company asked that the contractor call again three weeks before he was ready for the door. Eventually the contractor notified me I could make that call and when I did I asked for a design to be embossed into the non-window rows of the door. The door guy said he'd look into it but e-mailed me back saying the doors couldn't be made that way. So I replied "No problem, go w/ the original door I ordered.". Three weeks later the installer came w/ the door and started putting it up row by row. I immediately saw this was not a very basic looking door. However I liked it. I checked that it had two rows of windows - yes. I gave some thought to how the company could have made a mistake and realized when I told the door company to go back to the original door ordered, they reverted to the door the contractor and I had first planned. No matter, I got the two rows of windows requested and I can live w/ pretty.
