Whitetail in the fog
As you could tell from recent pictures on the blog, we've had many days of cold and fog. It was Indy who let me know this little deer was passing us on her way home. We don't have a lot of snow yet but, from the amount of tracks, many animals are still using my summertime mowed paths. The only country denizen who is unhappy about my paths are the voles. They make their own pathways under the snow covered tall grasses and can move around in relative safety - until they hit my mowed paths. I can see where their paths cross mine. There is a 'vole hole' on either end into the snow but little exposed footprints where they need to cross my path. The harrier who hasn't yet gone south would be wise to just fly over my trails in her search for food.
