On the trail
36 kids showed up for Lego Club at the library tonight. My only involvement is to mete out a treat to each child after they have done their Lego 'creation' and before they sit down for a story. I heard Colleen the Club Leader remind the children at the beginning that some of them had been going back for seconds on treats and that I would be putting a stamp on their hand to prevent that. The first young child came up for his treat and once he got it, asked for another since he claimed he never had asked for two treats in the past and if some others had done that, he should get an extra one also. I actually followed his reasoning but still said no. It must have really bothered him since he came back to my desk multiple times pleading his case for another cookie. Generally things went well until the last two children came up and I saw there was only one treat left. I called over Colleen and asked if she had more treats. She didn't. She told the kids they would need to share. You would have thought Colleen had told them she was going to hack off their legs. I dug into my purse and got out the candy bar I buy before coming to work, handed it to Colleen, and she gave it and the last treat to the kids. I assume children are usually beguiling, sweet creatures - at least while they sleep.
