Misty Autumn Color
I pick up the weekly paper at the gas station before going into the library for my Wednesday night shift. The attendant was looking at the paper herself. She folded it up and was about to put it back on the stack as I approached but I said, "I'll take that paper." She rang it up for me and then frowning added, "I was looking for the obituaries but I couldn't find them." Once I had relieved the afternoon library volunteer and the people currently in the library had left, I opened up the paper myself. The attendant was right. Not one obituary notice. I should be glad that no one in the entire county died last week but it somehow feels disconcerting. Of course, w/ no one dying the paper needed more fill-in articles. When a library display changes, I send a picture of the new display to the paper. However the paper doesn't print them until they have space in an edition. (Good thing those displays stay in for three months.) I checked the rest of the newspaper. Yes! The boy scout display made print this week.
