Clubmoss

Found a stand of these plants on the walk yesterday. I recognized it as a clubmoss even though it looks more like a tiny pine tree. The main plant is subterranean. This is an aerial shoot for sexual reproduction. What I didn't realize was there are a couple of different species native to this area - Princess Pine, Pennsylvania clubmoss, ground pine. According to the sources I read it will take some study to be able to determine which is which.

... and I worried retirement might be boring!
